We’ve chosen the bronze and gold ten-pointed star at the top of the Bennington Battle Monument as focus for and symbol of the Bennington Moment. More than the historical symbolism of the Monument as a turning point in the Revolution, the Monument is one of the most iconic and recognizable features of Bennington and appears in the town’s own logo. It is readily visible from a wide area, so every time it catches one’s eye it can be a reminder to give a moment of thanks or blessing. And the star at the top is a beautiful symbol of higher perspective and hope, as starts are in almost every culture.
The image above is of a model of the star made as a guide as the battle monument was being completed. The model is in the collection of the Bennington Museum.
